Our History
SoundCheck began as grassroots project in 2013, offering free youth-focused, music workshops out of a church in the Weston Mount-Dennis community – one of Toronto’s most underserved neighbourhoods.
Stationed in Weston for 5 years, we offered a safe space for youth to connect, pursue music, and develop transferable skills including budgeting, public speaking, employment training and more.
Our Space
IN 2018, thanks to support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation Youth Opportunities Fund, SoundCheck opened Toronto’s first youth-led musician community centre, a drop-in space for musicians of all levels of proficiency located within the Eglinton & Lawrence community.
For the past two years SoundCheck has provided a physical space, equipped with instruments and recording equipment, for black youth & musicians to collaborate, access instruments and receive mentorship.
